Advanced Fire Engineering – Maritime and Energy is a growing department in a large Danish organization focused on fire safety and security. We continue our impact-making journey in the energy and transportation sectors, working to promote a safe and fast transition of these sectors away from carbon-based fuels to contribute to addressing climate change. We do this by running innovative R&D projects and serving customers in these industries. We demonstrate the potential of new technologies, work with authorities and the public to promote fair and safe adoption of technologies related to renewable energy, hydrogen, batteries, ammonia, methanol, container shipping, passenger transportation and much more. Our activities are led in close collaboration with our Fire Testing department and its state-of-the-art fire testing facilities providing a link between practical, real-life results and engineering analysis.

We are a diverse team of professionals from varied backgrounds (engineers, social scientists, master mariners, business developers…) and 14 countries. We are looking for an experienced, curious, open-minded Project Leader comfortable with high-uncertainty environments to lead fire and explosion safety projects with partners in the energy and transportation sectors.

About the role

As our new Project Leader, you will be leading diverse teams of experts to deliver state-of-the-art results to our partners, working on some of our largest fire safety projects. Our experts have a variety of backgrounds including fire safety engineers, explosion specialists, and social scientists. The projects could concern risk analyses, feasibility studies, design support, or new fire tests, for technologies as hydrogen, renewable energies, or batteries, in a variety of settings such as harbors, shipping, production plants etc. They have in common high uncertainty, new technologies in new contexts, and are often about doing something new.

Your goal is to ensure high-quality delivery on time and on budget, to lead your project team through, to assist them in solving the task, and to create a safe and productive work atmosphere within the project. You will have direct contact with the partners and will defend the results from the team. You will have economic responsibility for your projects.

The role will have you lead both R&D projects and projects for clients. Some projects might also be internal, developing in-house capabilities.

You will report to one of the Team Leaders of the department and receive additional support from the Resource Manager of the department.

Your main tasks will be:

  • Leading a project team.
  • Responsibility for deadlines and budget.
  • Delivering high quality results.
  • Contact with partners/clients for the good implementation of the projects, negotiations for scope review, budget adjustments, invoicing etc.


What you need to succeed

We would like to see:
  • Creative and proactive problem solver who can work independently.
  • Motivated by high-uncertainty projects.
  • Focus on people and team members as much as on project performance.
  • Focus on quality.
  • Curious about people.
  • Good verbal and written communication.


Your qualifications:
  • 5 years experience with project management and leadership.
  • Experience working as a consultant in a relevant field.
  • Minimum M.Sc. in business, management, engineering or equivalent relevant education.
  • Excellent in both written and spoken English.
  • IPMA certification will be a definitive advantage.


In addition, it would be beneficial if you:
  • have experience navigating multidisciplinary environments.
  • are familiar with human factors.
  • have prior experience in the energy or transportation sector.
  • have prior experience with risk analysis methodologies (HAZID, HAZOP, Bowtie, ALARP…)
