A clinical position as consultant of clinical genetics at the Department of Clinical Genetics at Copenhagen University Hospital, Rigshospitalet is open for appointment from as soon as possible.

The position is combined with a 10-year position as clinical professor of Clinical Genetics at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

With this new position at the Department of Clinical Genetics, Copenhagen University Hospital - Rigshospitalet wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.

It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Organisation

The department comprises clinics for genetic counselling and laboratories, including cytogenetics and molecular genetics, specialised in e.g. chromosome microarray analyses and next generation sequencing (NGS) techniques incl. whole exome/genome sequencing. The clinical geneticists and clinical laboratory geneticists/bioinformaticians at the department work closely together, and the department also has close collaboration with other departments at the hospital, in particular paediatrics, fetal medicine, neurology and oncology.

Clinical functions and focus areas of the department

The Department of Clinical Genetics is part of Denmark’s leading university hospital for specialized medicine and carries out diagnostics and counselling of patients and families with hereditary and congenital diseases. The Department of Clinical Genetics is by far the largest in Denmark and serves the Capital Region, but the Department also provides national services for highly specialised functions. The department has implemented technologies for diagnostic exome/genome sequencing and prenatal diagnostics including NIPT (non-invasive prenatal testing) and PGT (preimplantation genetic testing).

Research and teaching

With the new position as consultant in clinical genetics and clinical professor (chair) of Clinical Genetics the Department of Clinical Genetics wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching.

Qualifications

Applicants must be board-certified specialist in Clinical Genetics.

Conditions

In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Copenhagen University Hospital - Rigshospitalet.

Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region and University of Copenhagen.

As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of Department of Clinical Genetics. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full-time secretary position from the department of Clinical Genetics. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with Department of Clinical Genetics at Centre of Diagnostic Investigation at Rigshospitalet.
